The Animal House facility, established in the year 2023, is located at the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics in the Sambalpur University campus away from the crowded environment which provides a healthy environment for animal management. It is the backbone of research activities for Drug Discovery and drug development. The Animal House facility has its own institutional Animal Ethics Committee constituted specifically to address scientific and ethical considerations of animal use for research. The Animal House facility is registered and approved by the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA), Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, for conducting experiments on small animals. It has Instrumentation room, well equipped with modern digital equipment’s like Analgesia meter-hot and cold plate, Plethysmometer, Infrared Actimeter System, Rotarod Apparatus, Electroconvulsiometer, Cook’s Pool Climbing Apparatus, Auto Hematology Analyzer, Dissection Table, Anaesthesia System, Water maze, Y maze, Elevated Plus maze. It has also quarantine, Individual animal rooms for small Rodents and Rabbit, experimental room, Dissection room, Animal Behaviour study room for animal experiments.
